Thanks to Michael Shindler at photoboothsf.com for taking the most awesome picture of me ever. Check them out if you’re ever in the neighborhood.
The Interview
Last summer I helped my friend Valerie Archeno create a little test video so we could show off her amazing film skills. We picked Uniqlo as a hypothetical client for this because their brand appeals to a wide variety of young urban professionals, and we thought the concept was perfect for their identity. I wrote and co-directed this with Valerie handling cinematography and editing.

Bizness
This is the official video for tUnE-YarDs’ hit single bizness. Special thanks to Rachel Marcus for being my wardrobe partner, as well as Gregoire Alexandre and Viktor & Rolf for inspiring me to cover half of Merrill Garbus with tulle. See stills from the shoot here.
“I only wear this dress for sold-out shows”
A quote from singer Merrill Garbus, referencing her custom outfit for the tUnE-YarDs w h o k i l l tour. Read the full article here.
A Little Chainsaw
Back at Lloyd and Co, to finish off our campaign pitch to Aldo, I thought I’d make a bunch of little chainsaw keychains for the clients to go along with our David Lachapelle concept, which featured a lot of imagery of women in fashionable shoes being destructive with power tools. It was our little way of saying, thanks, and please hire us or we’ll cut you.
From My Sketchbook
Back in school we were encouraged to keep sketchbooks. One class was actually devoted to maintaining them and contributing to them regularly, so that we’d never miss a moment of inspiration. Somehow my sketchbooks always ended up turning into a mess of glue, hair, octopuses and ice cream trucks, while everyone else had neat volumes of hand-drawn typefaces. They’re probably out there capitalizing on their custom fonts now, but for me, I think all signs point to glue, hair and octopus-flavored ice cream.
Below are some scans that I recently came across. All of these are from 2004-2005.
I Made My Bed
My friend Ryan was kind enough recently to let me use his workshop to build this fantastic bed. The frame is made of redwood planks from an old water tank, and the headboard is a giant slab of new growth redwood. I finished it all in black stain and gave it a vintage patina with sand and limestone.

Warning Signs
I’m starting a collection of warning signs, and this is the prototype. If anyone out there has any experience with lighting, specifically the LED kind of lighting, I’d love some advice.
Also, I made that concrete table too.
